"I NEVER go to the doctor!" - I hear that a lot! Patients almost seem to wear it like a badge of honor. However, that one statement can be very bad for your health. What you don't know is lurking just beneath the surface and can really hurt you.
My dad used to say that phrase all of the time and neglected his regular screenings. He was in his late 50's when he passed away from colon cancer. A simple colonoscopy screening would have detected his colon cancer and quite possibly prevented his early death.
Since that time, I have made it a point to get regular screenings myself. And not just a colonoscopy, but blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, and even spinal screenings! Its SO much easier to catch these problems when they are small and "manage" them.
Which leads me to my second point, when I started seeking regular screenings and treatment, I found that I would have to take a whole day off of work for a simple blood test. It is my belief that more people do not seek these simple screenings because it takes too long to get in and out of the doctors office, which is why we now have a full time nurse practitioner on staff to get people in and out with the smaller problems before they become big problems!
Was tolatly stuck until I read this, now back up and running.
